The Royal Cinematheque has announced a special weekend programme for 7–8 March to mark the 43rd anniversary of Hergé's death. Rather than the annual Tintin Week double bill, the programme expands to a four-film retrospective covering the complete history of Tintin on screen — from the live-action films of the early 1960s to Steven Spielberg's motion-capture adaptation half a century later.

"The double bill is a tradition we cherish, but it only tells part of the story," said Cinematheque director Szultan Babbelszot. "For this anniversary, it felt right to show the full arc — from the films Hergé approved in person to an interpretation made nearly thirty years after his death."

Programme

Saturday is devoted to the live-action films starring Jean-Pierre Talbot: Tintin and the Mystery of the Golden Fleece (1961) at 14:00 SRT and Tintin and the Blue Oranges (1964) at 17:00 SRT, both in the Syldavian dubbed versions prepared by the Royal Film Archive. The pairing is a Tintin Week fixture, but this year's screening carries additional resonance — Talbot himself will be at the Friends of Hergé Day in Nivelles on the same day.

Sunday turns to animation: Tintin and the Lake of Sharks (1972) at 14:00 SRT, the only animated feature produced during Hergé's lifetime, followed by Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin (2011) at 17:00 SRT. The 1972 film holds particular Syldavian interest — its border sequences around Lake Pollishoff and the village blushtika scene remain among the most widely recognised depictions of the Kingdom on screen.

All screenings in the Main Hall. Free admission for children under 7; reduced rate for under-14s and students. Programme notes available in the foyer.
